Thumbs up and down

A thump up is tracing from the sign language into the internet languages and becomes an important part of the sign everyday system. As it helps people to communicate more effectively, it is worthy consideration. It is the sign of approval or success. If you wish to tell a person that everything is fine in your life or you are succeeding in something, you used to show your curled palm with pointing thumb. Another meaning is permission to do something.
Thumbs down is opposite sign that means disapproval, guiltiness, blaming, censure and fail. In many countries this sign (thumbs up and down) has the similar meaning as all over the world. In Greece a person who shows thumb down means that a driver is really awful on the road. In Iran this sign is considered to be vulgar.
Another meaning of thumbs up is trying to catch a car when you are traveling by your own. As you know, some traditions forbid people point each other (perhaps, it is the influences of etiquette that prescribes people to respect each other in public and not to attract too much attention to other people). When you want to notice somebody whom your conversation concerns, you can point him or her with your thumbs up across your shoulder and raising your eyebrows. So, it is not so polite like no pointing, but at least many people do this.
